The first Lions of the Maccabi Wrestling tournament was held April 5-6, 2025 at the Kaiserman JCC in Philadelphia, PA. The tournament serves as a vital platform for Jewish amateur wrestlers to participate in international-style competition while exclusively celebrating their heritage. The proceeds from the tournament helps to fund Maccabi USA's Wrestling team that will compete in the 22nd World Maccabiah Games in Israel in July, 2026. The Lions of the Maccabi tournament aims to foster Jewish pride through sports, aligning with the broader mission of Maccabi USA as a Multi-Sport Organization recognized by the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee
The first Lions of the Maccabi Wrestling tournament kicked off at sundown on April 5 at the Kaiserman JCC in Philadelphia, PA with a series of speakers that highlighted the Jewish (Wrestling) Experience. Speakers included Maccabi USA General Chairman Lou Moyerman, Dave Groverman, Maccabi USA Wrestling Chairman, and Maccabi USA Wrestling Coach Rob Prebish. All three echoed the same sentiment: raising awareness of the sport of wrestling and expressing Jewish pride through sports.
